New dwelling on steep slopes with shallow weathered bedrock.
Architect designed new dwelling on a steep site with shallow soils. Due to the steep slopes and shallow soils, secondary treatment and a raised absorption bed were selected. The solution was to create a cut platform on the site with a batter at the front of the platform, rather than an engineered retaining wall, at the request of our client.
The slope behind the LAA was to be cut back into the natural ground and stabilised. Over 0.91m of imported sandy clay loam soil is to be placed on the platform and compacted to natural compaction to allow a buffer of 0.61m below the shallow absorption beds and a cover of at least 100mm above the absorption beds. Vetiver grass was to be installed on the batter slope adjacent to the bed to intercept any lateral effluent movement and to prevent breakout on the batter slope.
